The Q-Summit was conceived as a space to share best practices and build power among LGBTQA students in the Southern California region. This event will provide opportunity to discuss a host of issues important to the work in the community and lived experiences and how higher educational professionals can assist in supporting the needs of LGBTQA students. The LGBTA Faculty, Staff and Student team is committed to the fostering all voices speaking on issues of concern to queer students, centering on LGBTQ students of color and trans* youth when possible. We welcome proposals from individuals, groups, or organizations.There are the four options for leading/facilitating sessions:
Presentations
This category is reserved for high school students, undergraduate & graduate students along with professional and community members who want space to discuss research, projects, or ongoing campaigns. The presenter(s) may invite participants’ thoughts on their work, but the primary function of these sessions would be for presenters to share knowledge.Workshops
Students, staff and faculty (or professionals) wishing to facilitate peer-to-peer discussions, skill shares, and/or conversations around best practices should apply to this category. The presenter(s)' role is to engage collectively with their audience through activity, dialogue, or capacity building.Hot Topics
The Q-Summit team recognizes that some LGBTQ issues are quite difficult to conceptualize, let alone distill into an articulate proposal. In the spirit of welcoming free-form discussion, we encourage students, faculty and staff (specifically high school youth participants) to propose topics for round table discussions with other participants. The presenter(s)’ role is to facilitate these discussion.Caucuses
In an effort to respect the multitude of identities present, the Q-Summit invites proposals which make space for affinity caucusing (including but not limited to queer people of color, high school students, first-generation students, and undocu-queer folks). The presenter(s)’ role is to organize the space and promote dialogue focused on intersecting identity groups.Please Note***: If you are not a CSUSB student, faculty or staff member and your proposal is accepted, you will be responsible for paying your registration.
